From Thompson-Gale: "Something About the Author"
I have always loved books. My favorite, was an oversized complete Grimm's Fairy Tales with beautiful illustrations, which I lost when my family moved to the United States. I was fascinated by the stories of the tailor who went up against a giant, and clever Hans, who wasn't so clever as well as the more traditional princess stories. When I was about thirteen, after spending a summer in the library reading Paul Zindel and Judy Blume among other authors, I announced to my best friend that I was going to be a writer. I didn't decide what I wanted to write until I read "The Friends" by Rosa Guy. I had recently moved to Brooklyn, NY, and the book spoke to my situation precisely. It remains one of m

Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
Although they don't become a couple until the end of Pride and Prejudice, the complex societal rules they must navigate and the emotional engagement between them taught me a lot about how worldbuilding affects character relationships. It's fascinating to see how their world imposes on them in addition to how they impose on each other, before, at last, colliding.(less)

“Proud Fierce Papa Bear” – The Speech

Bill Konigsberg Online

Following is the speech of the first half of my talk at ALAN on Nov 19, 2018. It touches on an event that happened at a panel at NCTE on Saturday. Video is likely to follow, but I wanted this to get out there. I will post the text of the second half of the talk, which is more about toxic masculinity and my forthcoming novel, THE MUSIC OF WHAT HAPPENS, tomorrow.

“Because it is the hardness of the floor, and the abrupt halt in momentum, and the unyielding nature of the surface, that causes a thing to crack. Even if it is not that thing's fault. And then we talk about this thing being broken, or it needing to be fixed, and not what part of the floor has played in the matter. Never the part about the floor being a constant threat. Even if it is a nice floor. Even if everybody wants one just like it.”

Tracey Baptiste Absolutely! Love following fellow writers and book-lovers.

Tracey Baptiste Hi Marie.
I like reading romance, but I sure can't write it. I'll leave that to you :)

message 1: by Marie

Marie Hi Tracey, thanks for the friendship! You've sure done a lot of writing! To answer your question, I write YA romance and romance in general. My first published book was YA romance, my next will be women's fiction/chick lit, and the next will either be adult romance, or back to YA, I haven't decided yet. Great to meet you! :-)
