Amy C. Martin is a Mayflower descendant through her ancestors, John Alden and Priscilla Mullins. She has worked as a genealogist, helping others to find their family history, and currently works for the Antiquarian and Landmarks Society (Connecticut Landmarks) and the Connecticut Historical Society. Martin is an author of short fiction and has a deep passion for history. She is working on a second novel and short stories. She lives in Connecticut with her dog, Boots.

If you're blocked on a certain part of your story, move to another part, move to another story, work on something in a different genre or format altogether. If nothing else, do some journaling or write a critique of someone else's work. Something that often works for me is participating in word sprints - for some reason I get competitive knowing that I need to have a solid number at the end of ten or twenty minutes. (less)
