I answered this on my blog, but will put this here as well.

Back in the early fall of 2019, my in-laws, wife, and I were at a local coffee bar, Hendershot's, listening to a jazz performance by Grant Cowen. While there I had a rum-infused coffee and looked around.

On the wall across from me was a series of local art depicting women in La Catarina outfits. There were five pictures up there, but my eye was drawn to the facing forward woman in all black staring at me.

As I sipped my coffee and took in the atmosphere, I looked from one image to the other. I felt content and happy.

My mind went back to when my wife and I were first starting to date, and we were at an antique market. It had been cold that day, and we bought a paper cup filled with Brunswick stew from a vendor to eat as we shopped.

I started thinking about how nice it would be if death greeted us with a warm meal and a cold drink. I also considered how a bar to the world of the dead would be a great way for wizards or main characters to stop in for a beer, but could only be there for the duration of a drink.

I took notes on my phone and went about listening to music.(less)

One for the Road - Inspiration to creation

Hello everyone,

I am the author of One for the Road. This is my first book and I thought I would give a little background on what inspired the book and the process of writing it.

First, the inspiration for the book.

Back in the early fall of 2019, my in-laws, wife, and I were at a local coffee bar, Hendershot's, listening to a jazz performance by Grant Cowen. While there I had a rum-infused coffee Read more of this blog post »

I am pretty conflicted on this one right now. Lots of drifting, muddy thoughts that have yet to settle into anything coherent.

First, this was probably the most entertaining Triana novel I've read so far. Just on a sheer " Read more of this review »
