A maximum wage evening in New York
Next week, on March 13, I'll be in New York, joining my Institute for Policy Studies colleague Chuck Collins and Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality director Janet Gornick at the CUNY Graduate Center for an evening devoted to exploring "What Can Be Done About Inequality?"
The Grad Center is reporting that that the event has "sold out" of the available RSVPs. But you can still catch the event via an online livestream. Just click to: http://videostreaming.gc.cuny.edu/vid...
Hope you can tune in. I'll be talking about "The Case for a Maximum Wage," and I have some encouraging updates.

Jacobin has excerpted 'The Case for a Maximum Wage'
Jacobin, probably the hottest progressive journal in the United States today, has just published an excerpt from my new book The Case for a Maximum Wage under the nicely provocative title, "The World Would Be a Better Place Without the Rich."
I'll also be speaking about the book November 12 in a forum hosted by the University of Maryland School of Public Policy. The details.

'A Case for a Maximum Wage' named a 'Progressive Pick'
I'm pleased to note that the editors of the activist web platform Truthout have named The Case for a Maximum Wage one of their "Progressive Picks."
Truthout has published an excerpt from the book as well as a q-and-a interview with me that explores the book's themes. Worth a look. Thanks!

A maximum wage: Let's begin the debate!
My new book, The Case for a Maximum Wage, has just been published in the United States. Want a taste of what the book posits? The Nation magazine has excerpted a passage.
Also on tap: a series of book events in the Washington, D.C. area to launch a discussion about the notion of capping income. The first event will be Tuesday, June 26, at the Economic Policy Institute. Check the events list on my profile page for more details.
And if you'd like to pick up a copy, the publisher has a special half-price pre-pub offer good all this month. Just use promo code PIZMW when ordering the paperback at politybooks.com through June 30.

My new book coming this spring
The idea of a "maximum wage" — a limit on the income that society's richest can pocket — has emerged as a real political issue in the UK, and last year the British publisher Polity asked me to do a title on income maximums for its new "Case for" series.
I've done just that, and The Case for a Maximum Wage will now be appearing this April in the UK and a few months later here in the United States.
Interested in learning more? Polity now has a page online about the book.

From Ralph Nader, an ace new reading list for summer 2013
Ralph Nader has just come out with the second of this summer's suggested reading lists from veteran progressive activists and thinkers. His list features nine newly published titles, including my new book, The Rich Don't Always Win: The Forgotten Triumph over Plutocracy that Created the American Middle Class, 1900-1970

Peter Dreier's best social justice reads for summer 2013
Peter Dreier, one of America's top progressive political scientists, has caught the list bug of late. Dreier has a new book out, The 100 Greatest Americans of the 20th Century: A Social Justice Hall of Fame, and late last month he chimed in with a list of this summer's top 15 books on "what ails America and how to fix it."
In the list's third slot, I'm pleased to note, my new book, The Rich Don't Always Win: The Forgotten Triumph over Plutocracy that Created the American Middle Class, 1900-1970.
Americans live, Dreier reminds us, in the only major nation without guaranteed paid time off. But most Americans still manage to find some time every summer to relax. If you're looking for a good read for one of those relaxing moments, check out Dreier's list. And if you'd like to get a richer taste of The Rich Don't Always Win, just click your way to the intro chapter online.
