I studied biology and epigenetics for my Masters and PhD, and then worked in research publishing and science communication for a few years (whilst trying to publish my fantasy trilogy!). After I published my fantasy trilogy (2021-2023, starting with THE GAUNTLET AND THE FIST BENEATH) I wanted to explore science fiction and try my hand at a different genre. I felt my background in research set me well to write a 'hard' science fiction book, and so decided to focus on the biology element of cyberpunk (where the genre tends to be a little better at tech, and not so well grounded when it comes to the biology!).

My inspiration came from my worries about climate collapse and corporate overreach- I wanted to explore themes of hope in the face of overwhelming odds, and the nature of the communities we build around ourselves as we try to move forward. however, I wanted to do that in the context of a pulpy action-focused thriller!

I hope this helps- if you would like to ask any more questions, drop me an email at ian-green@hotmail.co.uk(less)

NO ONE TO HOLD THE DISTANT DEAD is a haunting elegiac wonder, a slow dream of empty skies that asks the only question worth asking- what is to be done? Beautiful unflinching work that is spare and lush in turn, refusing the lie of the easy answer.

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
