I was not particularly fond of the change in culture (from a neighborhood school with children of mixed backgrounds to a kind of homogeneous "exclusive" school), plus being in an authoritian family during the age where freedom was needed to grow healthy psychologically , I needed an outlet to express all the pent-up frustration.

Fresh out of school, I was still fascinated with youth culture. While working with in-risk youths, who came from a range of family circumstances, they always showed me something they have that could be used to drive them positively.

It could be a beloved family member (a brother with autism), a passion for the arts or sports, or simply being given a chance (e.g. selected few to take part in an external competition).

With this book series, albeit a novice writing attempt, I hope that both educators, professionals working with "difficult" children, and youths themselves can discover that one thing or a handful of things that can enable these adolescents to move forward.(less)

The characters in AOTRY not only descended from multi-cultural ancestries and varied socio-economic backgrounds, they also faced different challenges in their lives.

Both Robbie and Roby had difficulty paying attention in class as they were easily distracted, restless (hence the book’s title), impulsive, disorganized, forgetful, n

I Want to Die But I Want to Eat Tteokpokki by Baek Se-hee
“Things will get better with time. Or no, everything is dynamic, which means life will have jump-for-joy moments as well as bad ones, going back and forth like the tide. If I'm sad today I'll be happy tomorrow, and if I'm happy today I'll be sad tomorrow - that's fine. As long as I keep loving myself.”

“Listen to both words and silences – things she’s not telling you.”
A.X.Y. Grace, Adventures of the Restless Youth: The Stendhal Syndrome

“Were you looking at the trees just now? Don’t look at the trees man. Look at the gaps between the trees – where you wanna go. Don’t you ski? Same theory…if you think about falling when you’re on a motorcycle, you’ll really go down. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy thing.”
A.X.Y. Grace, Adventures of the Restless Youth: The Caster Effect

“...Don’t ye know what rains stand for?"
"R-A-I-N-S. Which stands for, Right Attitude In Negative Situations. Keep that in mind, yeh?”

“To live will be an awfully big adventure.”
J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“Hope that you will always keep your sense of wonder, and never lose your direction in life.”

“I think that's what they call an adventure. You know, when you don't know what lies around the corner, but you think it might be fun.”
Emma Eggleston, Escape

“If I dismiss the ordinary — waiting for the special, the extreme, the extraordinary to happen — I may just miss my life… To allow ourselves to spend afternoons watching dancers rehearse, or sit on a stone wall and watch the sunset, or spend the whole weekend rereading Chekhov stories—to know that we are doing what we’re supposed to be doing — is the deepest form of permission in our creative lives. The British author and psychologist Adam Phillips has noted, 'When we are inspired, rather like when we are in love, we can feel both unintelligible to ourselves and most truly ourselves.' This is the feeling I think we all yearn for, a kind of hyperreal dream state. We read Emily Dickinson. We watch the dancers. We research a little known piece of history obsessively. We fall in love. We don’t know why, and yet these moments form the source from which all our words will spring.”
Dani Shapiro, Still Writing: The Perils and Pleasures of a Creative Life
