By the time he graduated Emerson College in 1993, John was already half of the popular Boston-based vaudevillian comedy team "Daily Cry" (with collaborator Bill Daly). The team moved to Los Angeles in 1995 and took up a weekend residency at Santa Monica's Upfront Comedy Theater.

Since 1996, John Crye has worked in all facets of the film industry - from executive assistant and script reader, to actor and screenwriter, to executive and producer. John's involvement in such varied films as MEMENTO, THE MEXICAN, DONNIE DARKO, THE PRESTIGE, and his 2019 directorial debut CHANCE has provided him a wealth of experience in all aspects of indie film, both in front of and behind the camera, as well as on both sides of the negotiating table.

This will usually free me from rutted, trapped thinking and supply new inspiration, or at least a new angle of attack. If this doesn't help, if I am blocked by writing in general, I switch over to making music on Garageband or doodling cartoons. By my definition, being "blocked" means that the desire to create is there, but the "flow" isn't happening. Rather than taking a break or a rest, I like to simply redirect the creativity. While some will take a break and step away from the creative entirely to recharge, I find it far harder to restart when I do that.(less)

Paperback!

"The Elect Stories" began as an experiment in serialized storytelling, like the "pretty dreadfuls" of old. At the time, Kindle e-readers seemed like the best option for distributing a series of novella-length installments at a price that most readers would find affordable - $0.99.

Seven installments later, I cannot deny the almost-delay outreach from readers who want to join the adventure but simp Read more of this blog post »

This is some high quality Neo-Noir, but it holds an extra charm for folks like me who attended Emerson College in the 80s -90s and lived in the titular Charlesgate building. This is a fantastic thrill ride.
