J. D. Jahn turned to writing fiction after careers in teaching and communications and marketing. The Crone’s Tales is his first published work of fiction and harkens back to his days as a student and teacher of Shakespeare. He has nearly completed a second collection of stories, again repurposing for modern readers the techniques and conventions of classical fairy- and folk-tales. With his wife, he is also writing a murder mystery set in Brooklyn and a parodic, noir detective story that takes place at a fictional Florida university town.

But, over all, I'd say the best thing is the feeling one gets of making something original that is also in its way beautiful or as perfect as you can make it. Over time, I've come to enjoy the process of re-writing, editing and polishing almost as much as that first spark of inspiration.(less)
