“Carl, dear, Addison would love a walk through the garden. Wouldn’t you, dear?” Trixie said,her nails biting into her arm, and she winced.

Her stomach dropped as she fought her brain to work through her panic and come up with a good excuse, because she was not going anywhere with him.

The cover reveal for my latest book in the Mountain Roads Series is coming out this week, and I thought I would share what goes into making and releasing a book cover with y’all. There are so many things that we as authors have to think about when it comes to our covers. Things like making sure the cover matches the rest of the series (if it’s in a series), finding elements that will tie into the book, and even making sure it fits in with the market at the time.


When it comes to finding elements that fit the story, I like to try and pull out little tidbits or details that I write and put that into the illustrations on the cover. For example, if a book is kind of dark - we make the cover dark. If it’s a romcom, the cover will likely be lighter. For my latest series The Mountain Road Novels, I like to pull out something I actually write into the story, like a porch swing or a snowy road. (*hint *hint). My last series, the I Found You series, was a darker series written about men in the mafia - so it was the man on the cover with a darker background


When it comes to staying within the market for a cover, that is the hardest part. The book cover market is an ever changing market. Where one quarter of the year the best-selling covers would be floral with daunting text another quarter could be men’s abs or something of the like.
