“Carl, dear, Addison would love a walk through the garden. Wouldn’t you, dear?” Trixie said, her nails biting into her arm, and she winced.
Her stomach dropped as she fought her brain to work through her panic and come up with a good excuse, because she was not going anywhere with him.
Could she just run out the door?
If she took off her heels, she wondered if she might be fast enough. Then she glanced sideways at her guard and knew it wouldn’t work.
“Of course she would,” Trixie answered for her, giving her big eyes, and she must have missedpart of what they were saying because everyone in their circle was giving her smiling looks asbile started to crawl up her throat.
Vomiting would give her an out.
Before she could actually follow through, the doors behind them burst open, the crowd fallingsilent as they all turned to look at the intruder. Her stomach instantly started twirling for a different reason as she looked at a man that she'dthought she would never see again.
Connor.
God.
She knew that she had missed him.
But seeing him, actually seeing him in the flesh, standing there in front of her.She knew that she missed him.
Trixie’s hand was squeezing her arm in a painful grip, but she hardly felt anything. She was toointent on his dark gaze as Connor’s eyes scanned the room before they locked on her.Her heart twisted as she took him in and felt her breath seize in her lungs as he started tomove forward. His long legs ate up the distance between them as he reached behind him andpulled out his cuffs.
“Addison Warner, you are under arrest for theft. You have the right to remain silent…”
Connor’s voice drowned out as Trixie started screeching, and the crowd gasped. What the heck was going on!
