So I made a physical list of every book I have (the ones in a drawer, displayed on my shelves or stuffed in my closet), and then made a deeper list of the ones I planned to read this year, adding in a few that I wanted to get from the library, etc. Progress has been pretty swift, but I've also taken a couple of detours to read books that friends have recommended and that I didn't want to wait until next year to read.

A few of the titles I'm reading this summer include:

South of the Buttonwood Tree (my daughter bought this for me at Blue Willow Bookshop in Houston)

Anne of Green Gables (my granddaughter and I started it together a while back, but didn't finish - now, she's 13 and on to other things lol)

Debbie Macomber's Heart of Texas series (I wanted to read some Texas-themed stories, because, hey, I LOVE TEXAS!!)

Praying Women by Sheila Walsh (There are always some books in my stack for challenging myself to grow in my Christian faith)

I love to read! (less)

I'm an Enneagram 7 Explorer, so I love to write from a consistent viewpoint of seeing life as a grand adventure. It's easy to talk about all these things, but writing down the details is what really encourages someone else to enjoy his or her life in similar ways.(less)

“Hunkering down includes the narrowing of your focus. Lessening your distractions. Keeping the main thing the main thing. Staying on task. It involves keeping your mind set, from the beginning, on the joy that will come with reaching your goal at the end.”
Brenda McDearmon

“The fact is that when it comes to job loss, you and I need to prepare for it more than we have. Employment statistics aren’t necessarily doom and gloom, but they do serve as fair warning. Layoffs occur. Downsizing happens. What seems so secure one day can take a drastic downturn overnight.”
Brenda McDearmon, The Big Hunker Down - 7 Take Cover Strategies to Weather the Storm of Job Loss and Keep Your Destiny out of the Bar Ditch

“The best baby-sitters, of course, are the baby’s grandparents. You feel completely comfortable entrusting your baby to them for long periods, which is why most grandparents flee to Florida.”
Dave Barry

“In Louisiana, one of the first stages of grief is eating your weight in Popeyes fried chicken. The second stage is doing the same with boudin. People have been known to swap the order. Or to do both at the same time.”
Ken Wheaton, Sweet as Cane, Salty as Tears

“To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.”
Timothy Keller, The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God
