Bree Aguiar was born October 1994 in Fall River, Massachusetts. She is one of many cousins in her large, Portuguese family. Growing up, her best friends were fictional characters. She graduated from Stonehill College in 2016 with a B.A. in Political Science and currently works full time as a risk manager, though writing is her passion. Her favorite genres to read are fantasy, science fiction, horror, and thrillers, but her own work focuses on YA fantasy. Her debut novel, Gatehouse, was released in 2021. Her inspirations can be found in the works of Brandon Sanderson, Sarah J Maas, and Haruki Murakami. When she is not writing, she can be found reading, cross-stitching, crocheting, and watching Jeopardy. She currently resides in Massachusetts ...more

Uhhhh hard to rate. I wanted a Da Vinci code (which this is marketed as and compared to frequently), but it’s far from that. The puzzles are just about one work, and don’t have too much of a pay off, and they are far from the focus of the novel. This ...more

More 3.5 stars. The beginning was really strong but I lost interest halfway through, and then the sad thing happens 😢 but Paul’s writing is always a breeze and he really makes you think

So I guessed a majority of it about 1/4 of the way through, and the truth behind Ellie’s fate was probably the darkest, harshest thing I’ve seen in a WHILE. It was a very quick easy read, but I wish it had a bit more mystery and thrill!

Okay the author really shouldn’t have used this weird naming system or explained it better BEFORE the book starts. And literally every name starts with a C or a T (other than the main character) so it was impossible to know who was who easily. But I ...more
