The best thing about being a writer. Interestingly, I've heard it said so many times that you should "write what you know". And that makes perfect sense, surely. As a writer, you want to be authentic. And you don't want to sound like a clown! (Unless you're writing about clowns.) But I can tell you honestly, the most important - the most central of what CICATRICE is - had not been experienced by me, UNTIL I wrote it. For me, the writing BECAME the experience. So I guess the short answer to the question is: Writing gives hope. Hope that something so thoroughly felt and experienced in the imagination, may some day come to pass outside of it.(less)
