L.M. Coppa grew up in Brooklyn, where a third-grade teacher let her put on plays after recess and told her, decades later on a street corner, that she had to keep writing. It took a divorce, two jobs, a daughter to raise, and a psychology degree finished the same year her daughter graduated high school—both of them in masks, during a pandemic—for her to finally listen.

She started writing And Then Ben in 2014, squeezing pages in around a full-time job, a teenage daughter, and a degree she was still working towards. She completed the first draft the day before her 40th birthday.

Her second novel, The Shady Oaks Division, won a Distinguished Favorite at the NYC Big Book Award and received a Kirkus review. She lives bicoastally between New Jerse

I'd say this next book is very different from the first book in that there's no post-apocalyptic event that has to be dealt with. However, the main character in a way does have to adjust to a new way of life, just like Alice did. She's recently transitioned into retirement after serving as an "asset" for a government subdivision for many, many years, so there's an adjustment for sure. That's where the similarities end, though. I can tell you this, the mc does make left turns in this book. (less)

I loved, loved to read so that was likely it. The feeling you get when you’re pulled into a story, and the story stays with you—I guess I wanted to be the one creating such stories too. (less)
