Karlos the Unhappy Inspiration is not just the domain of creatives. It is the domain of everyone. Inspiration is living and thinking. The question is a bit like asking '…moreInspiration is not just the domain of creatives. It is the domain of everyone. Inspiration is living and thinking. The question is a bit like asking 'how do you begin to think?'

The act of writing itself is just one of the tools we have to imperfectly describe that thinking. It is communication, with our minds first and foremost. I think that, sometimes, the moment you think of an audience you've lost something of the spontaneity of inspiration. It becomes diluted.

Revision happens when the shortcomings of language and writing arise, become clear. Correcting those shortcomings is the time to think of the audience. That is why reading aloud allows you to hear some of what the audience hears.

But no lotus without mud. It's a dirty business.(less)
