My pen name, Jan E. Pat, keeps me free from labels, expectations and prejudgment. In my crooked path through life, I've been a journalist and activist for the environment and criminal-legal-prison reform. I invested time in as a parent. The universal pronouns in “Riddles Island” demonstrate how we can evolve to non-binary humans and pronouns - E – for he and she, MER – for him and her, WAN - woman / man. The non-binary main characters in the book go beyond appearance, age, race, gender, income, education and sexuality. I’m a bit non-binary, from an egalitarian big family with few gender restrictions. I like sports – especially outdoor ones like skiing, tennis, bicycling, canoeing. The sports I enjoy give a hint about my economic privilege. ...more

BTW, Octavia, a black woman sci-fi writer, used to get up at 3 am before work in order to write. (less)

Like me, you probably regret decisions made a a teenager, based on lack of experience and knowledge, using a brain that didn’t fully mature until age 25. We thought we knew everything.
