Eventually, I started a punk band with my best friend and we put out a few EPs and even did a full Florida tour. I started as a lyrics writing bass player, and eventually got the confidence to become the vocalist.

My band eventually broke up, and I did the only two things I could think to do: learn how to play Dungeons and D

I’ve read the majority of this book but forgot to leave a review. Andrés’ poetry is thoughtful, sharp, and it was amazing to see how the words changed in all 3 languages.

I am fully confident he will continue to write brilliance.

Still clever with an expanded view of what kingship means, I found myself missing the chaos of the first book. Mute is restrained here, perhaps by his new role, and maybe that was the point of this book: to see him free once again.

Holy crap. Stuck the landing. Not only a fantastic Shakespearean saga, but managed to twist expectations several times in the run up to the end?

Is it weird that the historical note at the end was just as engrossing as the story?

This is now easily my

A mix of the classic hero’s journey with plenty of surprises and fantastic world-building. This is my first Rob Hayes book, and I was not disappointed. At every new revelation about the world and the characters I thought “wow, that’s really neat,” an ...more

Really enjoyed this. The beginning compares favorably to Lions of Al’Rassan and when the Cosmic Horror hits, it levels the book up to new heights.

I found myself enthralled by the ending and second guessing everything, and still want to know more.

“Repeat a lie enough times, and it became the truth. Carve a lie into wood or stone, and it became history.”
Michael Roberti, The Revenge of Thousands

“The world is a grey place. A place of half-truths. Of half-wrongs and half-rights. Yet there are things worth fighting for, and they must be pursued with all our vigour and commitment. Half-measures achieve nothing.’ ‘What”
Joe Abercrombie, Red Country

“Remember this well. That is as much as anyone can tell you; the rest you must learn for yourself. Open your eyes, train your ears, use your head. If a mind you have, then use it while you can.”
Haruki Murakami, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World

“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
John Piper, Desiring God, Revised Edition: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist

“I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord GOD” (Ezekiel 18:32).”
John Piper, Desiring God, Revised Edition: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist

“Even in the miserable guilt we feel over our beastlike insensitivity, the glory of God shines. If God were not gloriously desirable, why would we feel sorrowful for not feasting fully on His beauty?”
John Piper, Desiring God, Revised Edition: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist
