Rob Sargeant was born in Kitchener, Ontario, in 1967, and grew up in Chilliwack, Peterborough and London, Ontario, where he graduated from the BealArt Program. He went on to study for a semester at the London International Film School in England. Since then, he has completed five more books. These fictional works include, A Silent Violence, Dance With Me and The Angelic Army Conquests Trilogy.

My wife, Olivia, had a near death experience while she was in college, and was taken up to heaven for a short time. She told me about this after we were engaged. In recent years I've learned that life on earth is preparing us for eternity. The character we build now, is what we will take to heaven. In heaven we'll have a purpose, we'll have a job, we won't just be floating around on clouds playing harps. The main character in my book, In Heaven, has the heart of a warrior, this trait is taken with him to heaven, and he is recruited to fight with the angelic army, to battle demons, and watch over the life of a teenager back on earth.(less)

To deal with writer's block I usually take a walk or run on one of the many nature trails nearby where I live on Vancouver Island.

If I'm doing research on a location one of my fictional characters travels to, I get creative ideas flowing by actually going there. This summer I ran 30km of the Cape Scott trail before I finished writing my most recent novella. The last chapter takes place at a lighthouse there.(less)

My first night trail race - The Rugged Raccoon 25 km

I knew going into The Rugged Raccoon 25km night race that the trail would be muddy. In the week leading up to it there were three days of heavy rain. The month before I completed a training run of most of the route during daylight hours and had made mental notes of some of the more technical sections with hills, mud, and roots. It circles a lake at the Wildwood Conservation Area in St Mary's Ontar Read more of this blog post »

The Last Campout by Rob Sargeant
“That night it was after eleven by the time that Andrew got to sleep. Snuggled inside his sleeping bag, the only occupant of a two-man tent, he thought of Jadin and the adventure they had planned. He wondered if he had the courage to jump off Jacob’s Ladder from the fifteen-meter height. Teenagers do it all the time, and he was almost one. In a couple of months, he would be thirteen. He thought, “There’s always next year.” But he doubted there would be a next year.”

“Too many Christians are content with appearing to be a bit more moral than the people around them. But the difference between a true Christian and a non-Christian is not about subtle moral distinctions—it’s the difference between being alive and being dead!”
Francis Chan, You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity

“Again, our marriage problems are not really marriage problems. They are heart problems. They are God problems. Our lack of intimacy with God causes a void that we try to fill with the frailest of substitutes. Like wealth or pleasure. Like fame or respect. Like people. Like marriage.”
Francis Chan, You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity

“Marriage is one of the most humbling, sanctifying journeys you will ever be a part of. It forces us to wrestle with our selfishness and pride. But it also gives us a platform to display love and commitment.”
