A life-long history nerd, I'm a fan of 1920s-1940s films, the New York Public Library, Art Deco and ancient ruins. Favourite books include: 'The Wind Eye' by Robert Westall, 'The Princess Bride' by William Goldman, 'The Tenderness of Wolves' by Stef Penney, 'The Penelopiad' by Margaret Atwood, 'A Month In The Country' by J.L. Carr, 'I Capture the Castle' by Dodie Smith, 'Heartburn' by Nora Ephron and 'The Red Tent' by Anita Diamant.

“But I was in search of love in those days, and I went full of curiosity and the faint, unrecognized apprehension that here, at last, I should find that low door in the wall, which others, I knew, had found before me, which opened on an enclosed and enchanted garden, which was somewhere, not overlooked by any window, in the heart of that grey city.”

“In not a single one of these little campaigns was I victorious. In other words, in each case, I personally failed, but I have lived to see the thesis upon which I was operating vindicated. And what I very often say is that I’ve lived to see my lost causes found.”

Thanks, Pam 💚 - yes, I'd like to, maybe for Christmas 2026! I'm working on a historical fiction story at the moment - and looking forward to writing something more lighthearted again after that.

Pam"

That's very kind of you to ask, Pam, thank you 💜 It's an anthology of short stories by students (including me) on a creative writing course taught by the folklorist Sophie Parkes. I don't think there's any plan for it to be a paperback - it's only about 70 pages and more a memento of the course.
