Nobody knows why Russia

DID YOU KNOW THAT:
Nobody knows exactly why Russia is called like that.

But there are two things for sure: that Russia takes its name from “Rus” and that “Russia” was named like that by Peter the Great in 1721. When he ordered to call his country “Russian Empire” or briefly “Russia” (with two “s”).
Before it these eastern Slavic lands were mainly called “Rus”, and in the Byzantine Empire Greeks called it “Rosia”.
But why “Rus”? No sure answer. Some believe that “Rus” was the name of the river, along which lived ancient Slavs. Or they called all rivers “rus” or “rusa”. Others think that "Rus" is what Scandinavian Vikings called "the men who row", whom they saw when they came to conquer East Slavic tribes. At that time rowing was the most usual way to navigate the rivers in East Europe.

This is a gentle reminder about my novel

Readers often ask me: "What was the inspiration for this book?" My husband was the inspiration. He is a Dutchman, had little knowledge about the USSR, and I knew a lot about it because I grew up there and left the Communist regime at age 25. So, I told him story after story, and he was amazed.

One evening, he told me:
"Write the book in the West people know little about life in the USSR". So, here is the book about the chilling reality of being a woman in the USSR “Love in Communism. A Young Woman’s Adult Story”.

I can't believe

I can't believe it is me, at age 17. This photo was in a school album. Time went so fast, and even more speeded up as we all got older. But, I have to admit that this hairdo is still my favorite:

This helps me to move forward

This quote helps me to move forward. Maybe it works for you also?

Friedrich Nietzsche (He died young, at 55 years old):

"THAT WHICH DOES NOT KILL US MAKES US STRONGER".
