I had so many truly wretched dates that my friends kept insisting I had to use the material (because sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction) to write a book. So one day, I did! The story is, of course, a fictionalized version of the events, but I send my thanks to the men of Paris for the inspiration!(less)

3.5 stars rounded up. This one for me just felt a bit too loosely stitched together, which I think often happens with debut novels. The emotional punch that could have landed from a story rooted in generational trauma and alcoholism just didn't for m ...more

3.5 stars rounded up. Having watched Reese's speech a few times where she said she hated the line "what do we do now?" delivered by a woman in any script, I was disappointed to see that line in her book (said by the FMC.) It lost a star on that alone ...more

"As a recent arrival in Paris and a fan of stories of reflection, self-discovery, and recovery like this one, I really enjoyed reading about Austen's ups and downs in the Paris dating scene. Thumbs up to Whitney Cubbison for this fun, funny, and wise " Read more of this review »

"Oh how I wish Goodreads allowed decimal points! This is a solid 4.5 for me. I loved this story - girlfriends, world travel, wine, terrible dates, romance and love - all in one. I gobbled it up in one day and I was so excited to learn there is a seque" Read more of this review »

Victor Hugo
“You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving. The great acts of love are done by those who are habitually performing small acts of kindness. We pardon to the extent that we love. Love is knowing that even when you are alone, you will never be lonely again. & great happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved. Loved for ourselves. & even loved in spite of ourselves.”
Victor Hugo, Les Misérables
