I am passionate around restoring the voices and contributions of women to the Christian movement. They made major contributions to Christian theology, composed music, translated Scripture into their local vernacular, preached, taught, and were leaders. Thus, two of my nonfiction books seek to correct this. I've also written/published on aspects of Spirituality. Visit my YouTube station (@BenedictineSister Laura). I just released my first completed novel, The Hannah Document.

A great new series.

A complex and realistic protagonist in Father Austin. Deros is well written with vivid language. The action never stops! I highly recommend!

All the stuff that teens (and those of us in touch with our inner teen) love to read. Alison is a strong yet believable character. Twists abound. A colorful collection of allies for Allison as well as gawd-awful antagonists. Enjoy!

“While being questioners and questers, we are often lost; we follow too many fads and fashions in our search. Too often we are left with a shallow and narcissistic inner life.”
Laura Swan, The Forgotten Desert Mothers: Sayings, Lives, and Stories of Early Christian Women

“The journey to the desert begins in our heart. Movement toward simplicity begins within. Solitude is about inner silence, calm, being grounded—in our bodies, in our healthy relationships, and in our God. The desert is the place that supports our learning this. The desert reveals the inner turbulence that keeps us churned up and distracted.”
Laura Swan, Forgotten Desert Mothers, The: Sayings, Lives, and Stories of Early Christian Women

“They teach us that we must shed our false self and allow our true self to emerge. This journey toward holiness takes us deep into our inner desert. The desert is too hot a place in which to carry our emotional and spiritual excess baggage, so we begin to let go rather than continue carrying the burden. Our desert begins to remove the excess we did not know was there.”
Laura Swan, Forgotten Desert Mothers, The: Sayings, Lives, and Stories of Early Christian Women

“During times of war, hatred becomes quite respectable, even though it has to masquerade often under the guise of patriotism.”
Howard Thurman

“The only reason you say that race was not an issue is because you wish it was not. We all wish it was not. But it’s a lie. I came from a country where race was not an issue; I did not think of myself as black and I only became black when I came to America. When you are black in America and you fall in love with a white person, race doesn’t matter when you’re alone together because it’s just you and your love. But the minute you step outside, race matters. But we don’t talk about it. We don’t even tell our white partners the small things that piss us off and the things we wish they understood better, because we’re worried they will say we’re overreacting, or we’re being too sensitive. And we don’t want them to say, Look how far we’ve come, just forty years ago it would have been illegal for us to even be a couple blah blah blah, because you know what we’re thinking when they say that? We’re thinking why the fuck should it ever have been illegal anyway? But we don’t say any of this stuff. We let it pile up inside our heads and when we come to nice liberal dinners like this, we say that race doesn’t matter because that’s what we’re supposed to say, to keep our nice liberal friends comfortable. It’s true. I speak from experience.”
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Americanah

“To dwell in the place of God, as Evagrius puts it, is to live with a particular intense awareness of this reality, to know oneself not as a solitary, autonomous being but as one whose identity can only be conceived of as existing within an intricate web of encompassing relationships. The primary work of contemplative practice is to become more aware of this web of relationships, to learn to live within it fully and responsibly and to give expression to it in one’s life.”
Douglas E. Christie, The Blue Sapphire of the Mind: Notes for a Contemplative Ecology
