Free Copy of A Backed Up John - Limited Time
I'm offering a free copy of my book
A Backed Up John: A Story of Gods, Goddesses, Mortals, and the Odd Stuff In Between to whomever would like to read it.
Please Note or PM me if you are interested,
I would really appreciate it. If you're unsure if this is your kind of read, please look over the reviews on Amazon or Goodreads. I hope to make you laugh, or at least smirk a bit.
Short Synopsis:
John Smythe is an eccentric scientist. After an experiment blows up his apartment, he arrives in Olympus, the mythological city of the gods. Zeus tasks John with following Hercules around to keep him out of trouble. When John notices different things from his time that shouldn’t be there, he vows to get to the bottom of it. But can he do it without changing history? Combining Greek mythology and modern times, the story is a mixed with humor, excitement, suspense, a touch of godlike perversions and time travel
I can provide the book in PDF, Mobi, or epub.
Mobi is the Kindle Version.
Epub is the Apple Version

A Backed Up John is 2.0
is now 2.0. I acquired a new program called ProWritingAid, and it has been a godsend. I sent BUJ through the ringer once more and cleaned up some items I never knew where there or considered.
For those who have the book, I suggest you reload your kindle version to 2.0. The new version has an extra chapter, a directory, and a playlist to read the book to. It will add a different dimension to the book with the sound effects. :)
I'm still working on my new books. I hope to someday have them available for early review by some kind readers. So far, I've received positive feedback from the first three chapters I've released. I need to figure out how to post them on Goodreads, so I can have a larger audience give me feedback.
Happy Holidays and New Year

Updates for All - edited
If you have read or will be reading
, It is now on edition 1.3. I did a couple updates. It should be ready by Wednesday.
I added a synopsis of the book, which is small blurb about the book. There is an updated the dedications. Michael Wernig, the gentleman who inspired me to write the book, lost his battle with cancer and passed in June.
I also added a fun bit called, The Playlist of the Gods. It is basically all the songs, and movies made reference in the book. There is also a Who's Who of the gods. Some are a little altered to be representative of how John interacted with them.
The Eternals are underway. I finally finished the first draft of chapter 7. It was one long chapter, which introduced six long term characters. Five are critical to the main character's life and happiness in the future. Funny thing, I didn't even know they were there until I wrote the section dealing with them. Funny how the mind works filling in the holes we miss.
For those who have a printed copy, here is a the passage I added to the book.
This is supposed to be an introduction to the character to help transition the reader into the rather confused and hungover character of John Smythe.
Chapter 0 - A greetings
Greetings, ἀγαπάω, and welcome to what some will call my beginnings. My name is Smythe, John Smythe. I am what some call a mental prodigy of sorts. By a strange collection of events that I had nothing to do with, I swear this on all my future and past selves; I became rather talented in using my entire mental capacity, or close to it. According to some future scientist, I have access to ninety-nine percent of my brains capacity.
This access has allowed me to do some pretty amazing things. I can make the most amazing cup of tea, make great pasta, bake and decorate fantastic wedding cakes, through together simply astounding Chinese dishes, read minds, speak thousands of languages, telekinesis, and travel through time. I’m sure there is more, but not as much fun. The tea is really amazing.
Traveling through time is probably my favorite ability, since I get to meet interesting historical people. I have to admit that I have yet to meet anyone who matches their historical description. As they say, the history books are written by the victors. This has not been a bad realization, or experience. On the contrary, it has been a relief to find that they are real people who actually have to take a crap.
In the beginning, I started traveling the multiverse by visiting the beings we call Gods. I guess, I was trying to figure out whom, or what had altered me to become this super being. The initial visit was to Ancient Greece, and the Olympian Gods. They were stalking me for years. My mind hooked on their existence, and off I went. They were my first experience with the beings that call themselves gods. It didn’t take me long to skip off to other realms, meet, and have other adventures with other historical figures like the Monkey King, Black Beard, and Jimmy Carter.
As a warning to myself, I will find you. Somewhere in the timeline, I became a bit antisocial. I decided that everyone should worship me, and if they didn’t…well just say I was a bit ruthless to their world or realm. I became evil. I got over it, but I was evil. Needless to say, I have a few enemies who are after both of me.
The following adventure with the Greek Gods is the introduction to my abilities. I was horribly confused by the experience and didn’t really figure it until I was reconnected with my shoes. Somehow, their temporal existence was a tie to my mental wellbeing at the time. I was not the only one a little confused. The Olympians had to deal with my first visit, but once it was over, the initial ten minutes, they pretty well fell back into their manipulative ways. Something about that group and their need to control, I don’t get it. Their behavior goes against Zeus’s plaque outside his door that reads, Si Non Oscillas, Noli Tintinnare. The statement basically translates to, If you don’t swing, Don’t Ring. It’s probably some private joke between him and Hera.
Enjoy reading my creation story, it is a bit strange. Then again, I’m probably not stranger than some of your good friends.
Happy Writing.

99 Cents
Working a forward for
, I thought about it a bit and it seemed the right thing to do.
I've finished an audio/movie/god log of the references I have in the book. This will be entered at the end of the book. I hope to get the updates done before the end of the month.
When I get the forward done, I'll post it here.
Also
is available on Amazon for 99 Cents, and will be forever more.

The Eternals
Working on a new book series, it should be three books. I'm still working on the first book. I have it road mapped out to the end.
I might post some of book in the forum for reader feedback.
The story about a man who finds himself being a part of the end of days. Yes, the biblical end of days. It starts off a current times and works to the literal end or beginning. It depends on how you view it. It's really my take on the politics of heaven and earth. My idea is there was a split in heaven for the following reasons...(spoiler if I say more.)
I've gotten about 1/3 of the first book complete, but it needs a rewrite to strengthen the main character's connection to the reader. I've had a couple people read the story so far and tell me the lead doesn't catch them. The other character do, but not the lead. I need for him to be more empathic to the reader. Unlike John from my first book, this character knows he has psychic gifts.
If I reflect back on A Backed Up John a book I wrote nearly 20 years ago, I see the problem with John was that he was confused and disoriented from the start of the book. A literal fish out of water, and being manipulated by everyone of importance he was interacting with. Yes, he was being manipulated by Poly. He didn't discover his voice until nearly the end of the book. I've considered writing a prologue that will resolve some of the issues. I also want to add a whos-who of gods in the book, and a music playlist.
I have other book ideas, but time is really working against me.

Disappointed
Well one more disappointment to endure as a writer, I found three of the five books that were for give-a-way copies offered as freebies on Goodreads on Amazon. They are being offered by an assortment of bookstores as a used. They are also autographed by me. I only offered a limited number of printed copies, and I know how many copies I printed for friends.
I'm just disappointed, and a little down seeing this. It's not like my book flew off the shelves and sold millions of copies.
The books is now on Amazon for 99 cents.

AHHHHH....
Well I just found my book being offered for FREE on several sites. I am pissed. The site offer free books to readers for their personal information. It doesn't even link to my site of Amazon. It linked to THEIR store.
Makes me wonder - seriously

The Waiting Game
Well I'm waiting on a couple reviews from reads to finally done. Some of these reads were provided by Bostick Communications. I believe there were six or seven who actually responded to the offering that was sent by Bostick. Need I say, I paid $$ for this to help generate an ad for the book and some readers. Well, I know in the future I will NEVER use them again. It was not worth my time or money.
I'm thankful for those who actually posted a review. They are honest and I don't expect anything else. The honest ones are the ones that make me a better writer. And the good ones, they make me blush.
I know that A Backed Up John: A Story of Gods, Goddesses, Mortals, and the Odd Stuff In Between is really for more mature readers from say 28 to 50. It's an odd market. They will get most of the references and jokes. Any younger, they may not understand the music references, and some of the other side jokes concerning the elder Gods.
For those who care, I am working on another novel. It is more a paranormal book. Yes, I tend to do characters who are special. They tend to be world savers, and I try to make the character sympathetic for the readers.
The series, yes series, will be called The Eternals, and I hope to finish the first book soon.
I am looking for readers to look at the first draft to help be consistent, and timing.
Thanks everyone
Mike
