Good effort, but there should have been more history of Our Own, the newspaper that served as one of the most important communication streams for our community. The materials are easy to find - ODU has an archive, as well as other organizations. https ...more |

"This polemic against the authoritarianism of J. Edgar Hoover is dated. Let's face it, Hoover is gone and he, we hope, took his shenanigans with him. However, in these post-Snowden days, the book could not be more relevant. The crux of Cook's argument"

John Pope nodded.
“Where did you get it from?” his mother demanded.
John swallowed hard, met her stare with a wounded look, and said, “I slipped it into my pocket during one of my deliveries to his office. I was going to ask him for a job, or at least a reference for a clerical position in Manhattan.”
“That sounds like a fish story to me, but apparently he saw something in you that brought him all the way to our doorstep,” his father said flatly.”
