I work in Massachusetts and am active in local environmental groups. I grew up in Spokane, Washington and moved to Amherst, MA to go to graduate school. PS: My family summers every year on Cape Cod and I can't imagine a better place to read than on the beach.

I wrote my new book, The Roots of Defeat: The Clintons, Obama, and the Decline of the Democrats, when I became frustrated with all of the cautious, even conservative policies of President Obama. During the Financial Crisis in 2009, he bailed out the banks and let millions of homeowners get tossed into the street, he passed a small stimulus law and allowed unemployment to go way over 10%, and he pushed for free trade deals that cost U.S. jobs.

It won't have good grammar etc. but it gets you moving through the block and into the ideas bubbling in your brain. Too many people think every sentence should come out like the Encyclopedia Britannica, but you should always expect to do a second and third draft - so the first draft should only be ideas, little form. Think idea blow-out. With all of the editing tools you have on a computer there should be no hesitation to write whatever flows out of your fingers.

Another idea is to write complete thoughts, not individual words. That is, concentrate on your idea/thought rather than on each word that makes up the idea/thought. Writing one word at a time is as deadly as reading one word at a time.(less)

It is the story of how the Democratic Party helped create it in the 1930s and 1940s and how it stopped helping the middle class in the 1990s. Lots of things about Bill Clinton in the 1990s and Obama when he was president. The title is: "The Roots of Defeat: the Clinton's, Obama, and the Decline of the Democrats."(less)

Climate Strike: Running Out of Time

I participated in the world-wide Youth Climate Strike on Friday, September 20 and will continue to be active, bringing the challenge of Climate Change into the public arena. We are demanding immediate action to prevent increases in the earth’s temperature. Why are we concerned?

The U.N. sponsored Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reported last fall that the earth’s temperature has r
