Mary Elizabeth Williams is a journalist who writes about gender, politics, and, more often than you'd think, Miley Cyrus. Her byline has appeared in lots of places, including The New York Times and LA Times. In 2010, she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, and in 2011, she was rediagnosed at Stage 4. She became one of the first ten patients in an early clinical trial for a new form of cancer treatment, and was declared cancer free twelve weeks later. But while things were looking up for her, her best friend was facing ovarian cancer -- and much more limited options.
