They hold a promise of riches and are a great equalizer. They are unforgiving. They are fragile.

My stories are shaped by my landscape. Whether I write of Regency England or Boulder, Colorado or places and spaces in between, I retell the myths born out of living in a land of little water and great beauty. I do believe the landscape of the

The Correspondent

It seems everyone was reading The Correspondent, by Virginia Evans, last year, and with good reason. I thoroughly enjoyed this epistolary novel. It made me cry, and I haven't cried over a book in a very long time. Swept away by emotion, I happily bestowed five GoodReads stars on this gem.

Because the novel is entirely letters, it was a pretty quick read with many pages less than half filled wit

“Reading is like breathing. Reading the classics is like breathing highly oxygenated air.”
Jane Greensmith

“Many a true thing is said in jest.”
Jane Greensmith

“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”
Charles Dickens

“It is a long way to Ireland, Janet, and I am sorry to send my little friend on such weary travels: but if I can't do better, how is it to be helped? Are you anything akin to me, do you think, Jane?"

I could risk no sort of answer by this time: my heart was still.

"Because, he said, "I sometimes have a queer feeling with regard to you - especially when you are near me, as now: it is as if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly and inextricably knotted to a similar string situated in the corresponding quarter of your little frame. And if that boisterous channel, and two hundred miles or so of land some broad between us, I am afraid that cord of communion will be snapt; and then I've a nervous notion I should take to bleeding inwardly. As for you, - you'd forget me.”
Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

“There are two motives for reading a book; one, that you enjoy it; the other, that you can boast about it.”
Bertrand Russell

“Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth.”
Pablo Picasso

“Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city.”
George Burns

Janet Smith Just you! :)

It does take a little getting used to, but I love GR and find it the best social networking site, bar none.

Enjoy....

M.J. Johnson Hi Jane,
Thanks for the friending me. I've only recently become a member and still trying to negotiate my way around Goodreads - is it me or is it unnecessarily complicated?
Take care
Martin

Janet Smith Thanks for the comment about Intimations of Austen--so glad you enjoyed my stories! They were truly a labor of love.

Meredith (Austenesque Reviews) Thanks for accepting my friend request. I enjoyed your book very much! I loved the compilation of different Austen characters and books, as well as, the original ideas and stories you created.
