Robert Wilson has written thirteen novels including the Bruce Medway noir series set in West Africa and two Lisbon books with WW2 settings the first of which, A Small Death in Lisbon, won the CWA Gold Dagger in 1999 and the International Deutsche Krimi prize in 2003. He has written four psychological crime novels set in Seville, with his Spanish detective, Javier Falcón. Two of these books (The Blind Man of Seville and The Silent and the Damned) were filmed and broadcast on Sky Atlantic as ‘Falcón’ in 2012. A film of the fourth Falcón book was released in Spain in 2014 under the title La Ignorancia de la Sangre. They were published by Orion but when the CEO changed they stopped. I have since written two books set in Occupied Paris which I hope to get published but it is not easy out there. Just want to say thank you for your works. I've read all but one, The Company of Strangers. I went through chemo and radiation the first half of last year. I would often wake up around 2 or 3 in the morning and go read in our nook/den for a few hours. I read a few of your works at these times and during the day as well. I thoroughly enjoyed them. My condolences on your loss. When will C. Boxer show up, again?

I know how tough that treatment is having seen Jane and others on her ward go through it. So well done for toughing it out. I'm glad my books helped to divert you through those sleepless hours. I recently had an email from someone who had been in jail for three years telling me how much he'd enjoyed the Falcon books with their Spanish heat and atmosphere. We writers forget that books are read in all sorts of different locations and under very different circumstances and in each case offer a different experience. Thank you for your condolences. I would love to be able to tell you that the next Boxer book (No. 4) is due any moment but both my UK and US publishers have decided not to go ahead so unless you speak German or Norwegian you might have a long wait. I'm sorry, but the numbers just didn't stack up. Clearly Boxer didn't 'speak' to enough people. I am currently working on another book set in London, Paris and Lisbon in WW2. I'm enjoying the accurate and restrained prose with which he builds this wonderful vision of old Peking. I was going to write a China novel myself, but was warned off by my agent. I did a lot of research before that happened and it's interesting to see how Paul French uses his decades of knowledge to tell his story. I met him in Shanghai on a research trip and he took me and my wife to some guerrilla restaurant run by a Tiananmen Square protester who was on the run. It was the best meal we had in China. Plates piled high with chillies. We were smoking by the end of it.
