Cover Reveal: Do It Again

Back in the early days of 2019, one of the biggest scandals to hit Romancelandia came to be known on Twitter as #CopyPasteCris. Cris Serruya, whose books apparently sold well enough to hit the USA Today bestseller list, was caught plagiarizing at least 25 authors in her books. She defended herself in a number of ways, including the claim that the plagiarism was done by ghostwriters she had hired.

Jackie shared a quote
Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch
“Even in these days of eBay and superencrypted anonymous purchasing over the Internet, the safest way to buy stolen stuff is to meet a total stranger and hand over a wedge of untraceable cash. They don’t know you, you don’t know them—the only problem is where to meet. Every market needs its place and in London such illegal venues have been called nazareths since the eighteenth century. The goods on sale feed into the twilight economy of the street market, the secondhand shop, and the man you met in the pub. There’s more than one, obviously, and they lurch around the city like a drunk banker on bonus day—you have to know someone who knows someone to find them. When things fall off the back of a lorry, a nazareth is where they end up.”

Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch
“Police work is just like every other job in that the first thing you do when you sit down in the morning is deal with your emails. Spam elimination followed by humorous cats, followed by “requests” from the case manager that I get my arse in gear and hand in my statements.”

Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch
“My dad was a fairy,” said Zach. “And by that I don’t mean he dressed well and enjoyed musical theatre.”

“None of that 'Oh, I'm not hungry; I'll just have a salad' crap so many woman pulled, as if he'd think they were less attractive somehow if they ate like real human beings. Nothing could be further from the truth. After all, what was the point in taking a woman out for dinner if she didn't like food?”
Jackie Barbosa, Skin in the Game

“The things this man can do with his mouth should be illegal. Or qualify him as the patron saint of pussy eating. One or the other.”
Jackie Barbosa, Semi-Tough Luck: A Motocrossed Romance

Topics Mentioning This Author

“Me, I can’t get to grips with my Inner Life on an empty stomach, and from the way you’re rambling, I reckon you’ve not been eating properly either. All right, don’t look like I’ve just sat on your hamster. There’s definitely something weird about Charley Penn, I’ll give you that. But then I think there’s definitely something weird about Charley Windsor too, and I’m not going after him.”
Reginald Hill, Dialogues of the Dead

“you’ve got such a talent for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, I bet you were born in a different hospital from the one they took your mother to.”
Reginald Hill, Born Guilty

“In an emergency some people keep their heads like draught Guinness while others are losing theirs faster than lukewarm lager.”
Reginald Hill, Born Guilty

“existence was like a huge Persian carpet. Looked at from close up, your little square might just seem a mess, but stand back far enough and you’d see for sure it was all one carefully patterned weave. Trouble was, like a photographer on a cliff, it was hard to get the right focus without falling off. But”
Reginald Hill, Born Guilty

“Perfection is unnatural, Sergeant, because it implies the absence of either development or decline. Haven’t you noticed it’s the political parties and the religions with the clearest notions of the perfect society that cause the most harm? Once admit the notion of human perfectibility, and the end can be made to justify any amount of pain and suffering along the way.”
Reginald Hill, Pictures of Perfection
