If you're experiencing writer's block, just know you're in good company! I think there are two kinds of writer's block:

1. Type 1: "I have nothing to say and cannot put one single word on a page." This one is never true. I've often sat at my morning journal or a blank document on my screen and discovered I can write a whole page of drivel. Write nonsense. Write about how much you hate writing. Be willing to do that. For days or weeks if needs be. It will get you into writing something "good" pretty soon.

2. Type 2: "I haven't written anything good and don't know where my project is going." Ok. This one may have some truth to it. Keep going. Ask a trusted advisor to talk about your challenges, structure, or thinking. Hire an editor. Talk with them about ways to improve what you've got.

I use both of these techniques. Keep working. Keep showing up and writing nonsense. Sometimes a page of nonsense leads to something really satisfying. Gotta keep those muscles stretched.

And, know that no one in history has ever written their "thing" alone. They have friends and partners they talk with about the work. They hire editors. They join writing groups.

If you're stuck, wave your hand in the air and ask for help! Good luck!(less)

My main focus is getting people's attention and telling them how our book Radical Alignment can help them have difficult conversations. Once the book launches, I hope to have some energy and focus to work on my next book idea, which will be about creative leadership for women.(less)

How We Do It (write a book as a married couple)

Radical Alignment How to Have Game-Changing Conversations That Will Transform Your Business and Your Life by Alexandra Jamieson ME: "I’m afraid we’ll fight, get divorced, and I’ll die alone in a van under a bridge."

This was my biggest fear, finally coming out of my mouth.

Bob laughed!

BOB: "That’s my worry, too!"

We’d finally said it: our biggest fear about writing a book together.

It’s the #1 question we get asked on podcasts and interviews about how we wrote Radical Alignment as a team:

How’d you write a book together wit

“We crave touch. We need each other. We need to be held. Baby mammals, humans included, who don’t get enough cuddling and skin-to-skin contact with another creature whither, don’t thrive, and can develop serious emotional problems.

Adults are no different. You need touch, physical play, caresses, and pleasure in your body as much as a river otter. We need more fun play in our days, even as adults. Play isn’t some trivial, dumb thing that’s just for kids. Play should be as important to you as eating greens or drinking water. Not only does pleasurable play grow new brain connections for happier moods and better memory, play also sets off a cascade of body-positive effects that help keep you slim and vital.”
Alexandra Jamieson

“May we recover from how bad our parents fucked us up, and never find out how badly we’re fucking up our own children.”
Kiersten White, Mister Magic

“promised himself that he would see it through, that he would not curl up into a tight ball and weep his way into 1969.”
Casey Sherman, Helltown: The Untold Story of Serial Murder on Cape Cod

“Truth is like ugliness: you need to be close to see it.”
Emilia Hart, Weyward

“She almost wished that she were an invalid (was there a way of becoming one?) and could stay in her room for the rest of the day.”
Emilia Hart, Weyward

“if a man saw my gifts for what they truly were, he would only use them for his own ends.”
Emilia Hart, Weyward
