M.R. grew up in an extremely conservative Christian home in 1990s Burlington, Iowa. In that small bubble of the world, M.R. had very few outside influences that were not other white, straight, Christian people. He was taught that LGBTQ+ people were sinners and that they would burn for eternity simply for being who they are. He was taught that women were not suitable for leadership over men, and they should be seen more as help-mates than equals.

Over time M.R. began to question such teachings, eventually going to Seminary and getting his masters of divinity to assess things for himself. Little did he know that this search would lead to the deconstruction of his religion and everything he was taught about the world.

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

McCoy One day while my partner and I were talking about quantum shifts (yes we are that nerdy) we pulled out of the driveway to see our neighbor's work truc…moreOne day while my partner and I were talking about quantum shifts (yes we are that nerdy) we pulled out of the driveway to see our neighbor's work truck with a flat tire so bad the rim was resting on the ground. We left for a quick errand and return to find it gone. Not that weird, it probably got toed while we were out.

Then, I remembered something I left in the car and went back outside to get it. In that 5 seconds, the truck reappeared with its tire fixed.

While it's possible that this was all just a very quick repair job, it was eerie how it perfectly matched up with my partner and I's conversation about quantum shifts.

Let the weirdness spread and you've got a decent start to a magical realism novel about paralell and quantum realities. (less)
