Compassionate Friends is a self-help organization offering friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved families that have experienced the death of a child.

There’s a word I’ve come to appreciate over the years. Liminal comes from the Latin word līmen, meaning “a threshold.” Liminality is the quality of ambiguity or disorientation that occurs in the middle stage of some kind of transition, when you are metaphorically standing at the threshold between your previous way of life, and a new way of life. In sixth grade, my English teacher gave the assignment to write a short story, and I had so much fun writing about a little girl who discovered an underground cat colony, that I turned in a 60-page illustrated (by my Dad) novel instead!

From then on, I was hooked.
