A so-so read, with plot holes and an unbelievable range of vocabulary words in dialogues between teenagers. Not sure if I want to try the second book.

“I think the poetry community works better when it is cooperative and generous. Poetry shouldn’t be just another capitalist product." —

, whose poetry collection Monsters I Have Been”
Kenji C. Liu, Monsters I Have Been

“The man described for us, whom we are invited to free, is already in himself the effect of a subjection much more profound than himself. A 'soul' inhabits him and brings him to existence...the soul is the effect and instrument of political anatomy; the soul is the prison of the body.”
Michel Foucault, Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison

“This is the historical reality of the soul, which, unlike the soul represented by Christian theology, is not born in sin and subject to punishment, but is born rather out of methods of punishment, supervision, and constraint.”
Michel Foucault, Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison

“Visibility is a trap.”
Michel Foucault, Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison

“But goodness alone is never enough. A hard, cold wisdom is required for goodness to accomplish good. Goodness without wisdom always accomplishes evil.”
Robert A. Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land
