Greetings, my friends, I am Ted Anthony Roberts, and I am a Swashbuckling Author - which basically means that my influences to become an artist by pen stroke have been merrily developed by such brilliant authors as Alexandre Dumas, Rafael Sabatini, Sir Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, Howard Pyle, Daniel Defoe and, indeed, a host of many others!

If the imagination will allow one to embrace the dexterity of The Three Musketeers, the derring-do of Robin Hood, the chivalry of Ivanhoe, and even the valor of King Arthur, then one will have a good idea of what my writing techniques are all about!

And, of course, I have also plastered my textual paintings by the exceptional viewings of some of Hollywood's most dashing cavaliers of the silver

The main character has a lot of issues, for he was subject to extreme abuse when a young man. His younger brother, now a priest in robes, comes to visit him ~ not to preach at him, or to rebuke him, but in hopes of giving him some peace that he is in need of. The elder brother, though, is very angry with God, and blames Him for all his misfortune - especially all the recent murder and mystery that has recently surrounded his life! Someone is out to kill him, and he cannot figure why. His younger brother hopes to help him before it is too late; but to the elder, it certainly is a war of sword against the priestly robe!(less)

“Is this seat taken?” she asked him again, tapping on a chair at the table.
“That’s where my Rum is sitting. He is my guest!”
“But the bottle is in your hand, and not in this chair,” she spoke, pointing out the bottle.
“So, it is!” he answered, looking at his Rum. Then, looking back at her: “But he was invited to this party.”
Ted Anthony Roberts, Captain Skull: From the Memoirs of Sir Charles of Riley

“When handled in a civilized fashion, Piracy on the high seas could become more of a wise business decision than of a sheer, chaotic, unorganized criminal act. And I saw very little difference in what we were doing than the royals and courtiers were doing in the midst of cities, and of calling what they were doing legal and legitimate.”
Ted Anthony Roberts, Captain Skull: From the Memoirs of Sir Charles of Riley

“Then, after picking up his papers, Pierre began: “A beautiful woman can be the downfall of a gentleman . . . but the uplift of a beggar!”
Ted Anthony Roberts, Captain Skull: From the Memoirs of Sir Charles of Riley

“He was born with a gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad.”
Rafael Sabatini, Scaramouche

“They seek him here, they seek him there
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere
Is he in heaven or is he in hell?
That demned elusive Pimpernel”
Baroness Emmuska Orczy, The Scarlet Pimpernel

“And now gentlemen, all for one, one for all - that is our motto, is it not?”
Alexandre Dumas, The Three Musketeers

“I do not often laugh, sir, as you may perceive by the air of my countenance; but nevertheless, I retain the privilege of laughing when I please.”
Alexandre Dumas, The Three Musketeers

“I came to Paris with four écus in my pocket, and I’d have fought with anybody who told me I was in no condition to buy the Louvre.”
Alexandre Dumas, The Three Musketeers

Ted Roberts What a wonderful comment, Karen! I am only happy to have help inspire you, and direct you here. Yes, we need more Swashbuckling stories on the market ~ it does not need to be a thing of yesteryear. And, yes, I was very inspired by Dumas, as well as Sabatini, DeFoe, and actors like Flynn, Tyrone Power, etc. Thanks for posting :-)

Karen Roongrojana Wow, I see you were inspired by a lot of the same writers as I. I was an avid reader of especially Dumas. Also staying up late to watch the likes of Errol Flynn in Sea Hawk, Captain Blood and of course The Adventures of Robin Hood. I am still working on my first novel, a pirate adventure/romance and in the planning stages of a novel set in the time of King Arthur. You have inspired me to get back to it. And thank you so much for directing me to this website.
