I am a musician, a wildlife biologist and a writer of songs and stories. Born in Manchester I moved to Liverpool in time to catch the birth of the Mersey Beat. In the early 80s I lived and worked in Heidelberg, Germany and moved to York in 1983 where I now live. I have run a hedgehog rescue centre for 27 years and grow vegetables on an allotment.
I have published 7 books as paperbacks and 8 ebooks and am about to publish my 14th novel. I like to write on diverse topics, including gothic and parallel world themes. My latest book, The Dark Mirror, is a crime thriller with a supernatural twist.

When you least expect it, and when you are otherwise occupied, an idea will spring into your head, as if from nowhere. This is how stories come to me.(less)

Writing in the shade

Feeling very inspired to write out of doors - as long as in the shade!

“They did not know it was impossible, so they did it. Mark Twain”
Toni Bunnell, The Room Between the Floorboards

“It's not a competition, it's a doorway.”
Mary Oliver

“Landscape

Isn't it plain the sheets of moss, except that
they have no tongues, could lecture
all day if they wanted about

spiritual patience? Isn't it clear
the black oaks along the path are standing
as though they were the most fragile of flowers?

Every morning I walk like this around
the pond, thinking: if the doors of my heart
ever close, I am as good as dead.

Every morning, so far, I'm alive. And now
the crows break off from the rest of the darkness
and burst up into the sky—as though

all night they had thought of what they would like
their lives to be, and imagined
their strong, thick wings.”
Mary Oliver, Dream Work

“They did not know it was impossible, so they did it. Mark Twain”
Toni Bunnell, The Room Between the Floorboards

“He saw now that he had always existed at a quiet distance from reality.”
Lauren Owen
