Wayne Thomas Batson was born in Seabrook, MD in 1968. He had an adventurous childhood and adolescence that included: building forts in the woods, crabbing and crayfishing in bays, ponds, and bayous, playing lead guitar in a heavy metal band, and teaching tennis lessons at the local recreation center. He attended Gabriel DuVal Senior High School where he wrote for the school’s newspaper and literary magazine. The odd feeling I have is that we might not have that much to talk about, being from different generations, etc. If half of what I've read about him is true, I feel like Tolkien would almost be above me, like his high elves being higher than the more common races. CS Lewis is another one I'd have loved to meet and talk. His apologetics work has always fascinated me, and I'd love to throw some arguments at him just to hear his incredible logic. For modern authors I might actually be able to meet, I'd like to have a beer with Jim Butcher. I believe his personality comes shining through his Dresden Files books, and I think we'd get along well. (less)

“Never Alone!”
Wayne Thomas Batson, The Door Within

“There are passages and doors
And Realms that lie unseen.
There are Roads both wide and narrow
And no avenue between.
Doors Remain closed for those
Who in sad vanity yet hide.
Yet when Belief is chosen,
The key appears inside.
What is lived now will soon pass,
And what is not will come to Be.
The Door Within must open,
For one to truly see.
Do you see?
Believe and enter.”
Wayne Thomas Batson, The Door Within

“Adventures are funny things.
Some streak down upon you like a storm.
Others emerge after many years have passed and something forgotten is revealed.
They can be discovered on a dusty bookshelf or the yellowed pages of an ancient map.
They promise great reward, but no adventure is without risk.”
Wayne Thomas Batson, The Rise of the Wyrm Lord

Sarah Hey Mr. Wayne! I have a really quick question. I've been trying to find the quote from Captain Valithor when Aiden asks him if there are adventures in "Heaven" in /The Final Storm/. Is there any way you could get that to me?

Michael Hi, Wayne! Thanks for friending me, and sorry it took me so long to get back to you!

Cheers,
Mike

Silver Swan I finished your book...and now my best friend had better hurry up and give me the next book to borrow! LOL. (It's checked out in the library. AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!)

message 4: by Wayne

Wayne Yes, yes, and yes. I do like Susan Cooper and Pirates of the Caribbean. And I still teach. lol

message 3: by Silver Swan (last edited Oct 21, 2008 05:59PM)

Silver Swan Hi again!

I always seem to be surrounded by LOTR fans, lol.

I've never read anything by the YA fantasy authors that you mentioned, but I'll have to look for some of their books the next time I go to the library. Have you read anything by Susan Cooper? I really enjoyed her The Dark is Rising series.

Although I'm a Star Trek fan, most of the books that I read are fantasy rather than sci-fi. But I do like both genres, depending on the story. Have you read anything by Madeleine L'Engle? Her books are more along the lines of sci-fi, but they also have fantasy elements (eg. unicorns).

I'm also looking forward to reading your pirates series. Are you a Pirates of the Caribbean fan? :)

I read that you were also a teacher. That's awesome! My major is actually Education/Liberal Studies. Do you still teach?

message 2: by Wayne

Wayne Hi, thanks for the add. I love fantasy, esp. Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. I also like a lot of YA fantasy: Jenny Nimmo, Christopher Hopper, Jonathan Rogers, Donita K. Paul, John Flanagan. Not so much into SciFi.

Never alone.

-WtB

Silver Swan Hey Wayne!

Thanks for adding me! :)

What are some of your favorite fantasy books? Are you also into sci-fi?

I love writing stories and poetry. I started writing a fantasy novel fairly recently, but I have less time to work on it now with school and such.

You're a great author...keep up the good work! :)

Gina
