Catherine Asaro's Blog - Posts Tagged "catherine-asaro"
My first blog post
I've never done a blog before, but I will try one here. It seems like this will work better than sending around notices for online publications as an "event." Cuz a blog entry or interview isn't actually an event!
I'll start with a link of my essay about science fiction and our daughters that I sent around a few days ago. I wrote it for the online Fantasy Book Cafe, and excellent source of book online discussions.

Welcome to my blog, and I hope you enjoy reading!

Diabetes auction
I'm participating in diabetes fundraiser, Brenda Novak's Annual Online Auction for Diabetes Research. So far, she's has raised over $1.3 million (cumulatively) — and she hopes to break $2 million in the near future.
A basket of my books and other goodies is up for auction, with proceeds going to the fundraiser. If you'd like to bid, here is the link:
http://brendanovak.auctionanything.co...
About the blog: I'm still trying to figure out how to enter photos. I'm not doing it right, but I'm not sure what's wrong.

Nebula Awards Weekend
Well, I'm off in a few hours to the mass author signing at the Nebula Awards weekend. The event is 5:30-7:30 pm. The address is
Hyatt Regency Crystal City
Reagan National Airport
2799 Jefferson Davis Hwy
Arlington, VA 22202
Arlington Virginia is a bit of a drive for me, but one that I enjoy. It's a great day for a "Sunday" drive (okay, a Friday drive :-)). The weather is almost perfect outside. If only it could be like this for most of the year. Not all, though. We need a few snow storms to liven things up.
I'm especially excited this year because I am the editor of the Nebula Awards anthology that SFWA puts out each year. We will be showcasing the award winners, other authors, and also the Rysling winners in poetry. Past editors have included James Patrick Kelly & John Kessel (2012), Kevin J. Anderson (2011), Bill Fawcett (2010), Ellen Datlow (2009), Ben Bova (2008), Mike Resnick (2007), Gardner Dozois (2006), Jack Dann (2005), and Vonda N. McIntyre (2004). Those are the ones listed at the SFWA site.
For other details, you can look at the SFWA site note for the signing.
If you're in the area today, I hope you can come by. You don't need to be registered as an attendee at the Nebula Awards to go to the signing.

Dance auditions
Music video
Tomorrow is the big day. We'll be auditioning dancers for a music video of a song I'm almost finished recording, with the Peppercorn Band.

I wish my daughter could perform in the video. She's such a lovely dancer. She feels out of shape because she's been at university. Actually, that's not why she can't do the video, though. She is in England, finishing her degrees, and the video is in Maryland, USA. :-)
The link below is to a dance picture of my beautiful girl. If you like the picture, please let her know by clicking like on the picture.

Fringe Festival
The Diamond Star Project was accepted to do the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington DC this summer. We have five performances in July. We're going to do selections from the rock opera Diamond Star, all original work, and I'll probably premier the new song there that I'm working on now.
These are our show times:
SA 7/14 5:30PM
FR 7/20 10:00PM
SU 7/22 8:30PM
FR 7/27 7:45PM
SU 7/29 NOON
Here's a copy of the auction flyer:

Music video
I just had a bit of good news. The music video that I recently cut for a song I wrote with David Dalrymple is on the list of nominees in the R&B category for the World Music and Film Festival. Here's the link to the video:

This song is part of the soundtrack for a novel I'm currently working on. I hope you enjoy it!

Recent interviews
Here are some interview/talks I've done recently.
1) This first one is from a talk I gave at the National Academy of Sciences for their DASAR program:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvXWAt...
2) This second is an interview by Lindiwe Maqhubela for the show Inspiration for Creation.
On her website: http://inspirationforcreation.com/int...
One YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqX4R2...
We actually did this interview via Skype, while I was in Maryland and Linda was in England. The video was too dim for publication quality, but the audio came out better. Lindie is a wonderful interviewer and I really enjoyed talking to her.
The picture below is of Lindie, the interviewer.

Lightning Strike, Book II

Hello, everyone. I would like to invite you to my Patreon page.
https://www.patreon.com/CatherineAsaro
Most of the posts are for patrons only, but I have a public post anyone can read, the story Dance In Blue, written for the anthology Christmas Forever:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/32600255
I'm also posting short stories and scenes from Lightning Strike, Book II. This is the sequel to Book I. (It was originally Catch the Lightning. When I got the rights back, I set about rewriting the book the way I had originally wanted to do it.) I'm up through Chapter four in Book II now.
I'm including artwork and pictures to illustrate the book, which the publisher can't do in the hardcopy! And photos of family, the holiday, kittens, things like that. :-)
I will soon be posting scenes from my next Major Bhaajan book, The Vanished Seas, which is due out from Baen this summer.
I hope you can join us!
Many thanks -- Catherine
