I wanted the facts to be true but to show what she might have been thinking, how she might have perceived life at the Tudor court.(less)

Unheard Voices: The Last Shoes Reenactment at Hampton Court Palace

On 27th July 2023, I went on yet another trip to Hampton Court Palace. I went to see Elizabeth I’s Book of Common Prayer (which unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to take pictures of to share with you) and was surprised to stumble across a reenactment of Mary I and Jane the Foole.

It was surprisingly moving and very well-written and acted. I love how the two acted together and that the story showed Mar

Charlie’s Recent Updates

Charlie Fenton is 14% done with An Accidental History of Tudor England: 'Some deaths tested the boundaries. Here the wording might take pains to show which side of the line an incident fell. Jane Stonarde, for example, fell into a pond by misfortune and against her will, not meaning herself any harm. Her drowning was definitely not suicide.'

Charlie Fenton is 13% done with An Accidental History of Tudor England: 'We can find other useful fictions. From the 1580s a suspicious number of those who drowned washing horses were said to have slipped off the back of the horse and tried to swim to safety, lessening the likelihood that the horse would be judged forfeit.'

“thank him.  We can’t have him forgetting about you.”   “But”
Charlie Fenton, Perseverance: A Novel of Anne Boleyn

“Captivating to men, Anne was also sharp, assertive, subtle, calculating, vindictive, a power dresser and a power player, perhaps a figure to be more admired than liked.”
Eric Ives, The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn

“From the day he first made me his, to the last day I made him mine, yes, let me set it down in numbers. I who can count and reckon, and have the time. Of all the days I was his and did not love him—this; and this; and this many. Of all the days I was his—and he had ceased to love me—this many; and this. In days—it comes to a thousand days—out of the years. Strangely, just a thousand. And of that thousand—one—when we were both in love. Only one, when our loves met and overlapped and were both mine and his. When I no longer hated him, he began to hate me. Except for that one day. One day, out of all the years.30”
Susan Bordo, The Creation of Anne Boleyn: A New Look at England's Most Notorious Queen

“While I thought that I was learning how to live, I have been learning how to die.
-Leonardo Da Vinci”
Oliver Bowden, Renaissance
