It's taken me many drafts—in writing and in life—to arrive at the realization that good writing is the result of a clear thinking mind. My writer's block was the result of a mind muddled by half-truths, buried dreams and the projected fears of my parents and others who tried to warn me away from a writer's life.

Obviously it hasn't worked! For nearly 20 years I have written a relationship advice column for the Sacramento News & Review newspaper. I am also a published poet, essayist and author.

If you are struggling with writer's block, I recommend the book, "Unstuck: A Supportive and Practical Guide to Working Through Writer's Block" by Jane Anne Staw, Ph.D. Ms. Staw is a brilliant, insightful and kind guide out of the darkness and into literary freedom.
