During the lows, I confess, I was always more stimulated to tell my stories. One afternoon, annoyed about a particularly nasty doctor I'd met, I started imagining the kinds of things he might do. That's how I got started, but it didn't take long before the process and the many things I loved about work caught up with me and inserted themselves into the book. Some of the incidents in the story happened and some were made up. The characters were made up. Fiction writing is fun that way.(less)
