An amazing story, very well told. Top of the survival genre, both in terms of the content and quality of writing. This book also does a good job of collecting historical accounts from several sides and sources and digging in to the legal and cultural ...more

Transcription is a novella of 130 pages that piqued my interest in The first 30 pages and lost it by page 80. I appreciate what might be the big thematic and subtextual swing it’s taking, but the lack of stakes, story, and long meandering monologue t ...more

An incredible novella. Uses the form to a T, sparsely worded by packed with details that sound too real but also unimaginable. A lovely story that follows a man’s life unblinkingly and as if from behind a glass or from a great distance.

A-plus historical novel, wonderfully imagined. Williams does a fantastic job of using epistolary narrative to breathe life and emotion into real people that lived 2000 years ago. The characters are well fleshed out in their own words, while leaving r ...more
