I had a chance to meet Strout recently, as her book The Burgess Boys is based on the same town -- Lewiston, Maine -- as my upcoming book, and I read it obsessively and multiple times as part of my research. Specific books that have stuck with me the last few years include Orphan Train, Everything I Never Told You, Dept. of Speculation, Admission, and A Visit from the Goon Squad. After an intense 18 months of research and writing, I'm looking forward to diving back into fiction again.
