When I conducted my research for my crime novel, You’ll Never See Me Again, A Crime to Remember, I traveled to Oxford where I met the owner of the Burgundy Room, James Bulian (see photo below). Jim and I had a nice meeting and he invited me to have a book signing at the Burgundy Room.

Plans are underway to have it in October. More details to come!

In recognition of my dedicated leadership as the Founder of the Norman Christmas Day Community Dinner, the Delta Kappa Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, presented me with the 2016 ESA Foundation Humanitarian Award. It has been an honor for me and the many volunteers, who for the last 29 years, to have served over 2000 people in Norman each Christmas Day. I gratefully accepted the award on behalf of my family, who started the dinner with me, and all the volunteers.

Anyone who keeps learning stays young. So, as your friend (I hope) I want to help you stay young. How can I do that? No meds are involved, just a few words of wisdom. Since I'm concerned about you, I recommend that you read my latest novel, You'll Never See Me Again, A Crime to Remember. It will knock your socks off and health wise --- it will cause your brain synapses to fire off so many times you'll begin to feel like a teenager again. Now, wouldn't you like that? Sure you would. Readers ask me during my lectures where I get my ideas for my books. I guess, like most writers of fiction, I get them from the TV, newspapers, magazines, and conversations sometimes overheard in restaurants. When I see or hear something that catches my attention, the "What if" starts the wheels moving in my brain. What if a young women leaves work one evening and disappears? That caught my attention and developed into my latest novel, "You'll Never See Me Again, A Crime to Remember." When I get excited about an idea, I work it in my mind to first see if it could develop into a full novel. If so, I'll formulate all my thoughts into what they call in Hollywood---a "treatment." It is nothing more than a synopsis consisting of thoughts that come at me one after another-- stopping only after I've exhausted all possibilities.Now this makes a novel not. There's much more work to be done. I have to work it further by putting segments from the synopsis into an outline. These segments can be scenes or chapters. Once I have my outline, I work it for 3 months to make sure the plot (sequence of events that arise out of cause and effect) flows and there's plenty of conflict, and more conflict. Once I'm happy with my outline--I know what you're thinking --he's ready to write. Afraid not. Next, I have to develop my characters. I will wait until another time to tell you how I develop my characters (that's another story in itself), but suffice it to say that I spent 6 months developing my characters for "You'll Never See Me Again, A Crime to Remember." After the 9 months (developing the outline and my characters) I was ready to write my first word. Now tell me, do you think writing is easy? No way. I've written scientific articles most of my life, but nothing is as hard as writing fiction. At least, for me. I find it amusing when readers tell me that someday they'll sit down and write a novel. I wish them tons of luck, but it "ain't" so easy. And you better learn the craft, or you "ain't" gonna do it. Those critics out there will eat you alive.
My next post will be about how I develop my characters. You must tune in. You'll find it very interesting. Why.? Because I have my characters write a brief bio about themselves. You think I'm crazy? My characters talk to me, and some of them don't like me. Crazy stuff, you say. Well, it's true. Some of them tell me that they didn't like it that I played God and created them. That's all for now.
