The Road Back to Sweetgrass is actually preceded by The Dance Boots; some of the same characters appear in both. The manuscript I am working on right now (the sequel) will complete the trilogy. My poetry collection The Sky Watched: Poems of Ojibwe Lives addresses some of the same themes, and my forthcoming book Onigamiising: Seasons of an Ojibwe Year (Oct, 2017) is a collection of season-themed short pieces about living up north in Duluth Minnesota, which is on the shores of Lake Superior.(less)

I cannot recall the last time I was so deeply drawn into a story. This is not to say that I “love” the book. There are a few things I don’t; however, because of the overall experience of the read I gave them a pass: 1) Although not many, the author’s ...more

Lewis Carroll
“Lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of hers would, in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would keep, through all her riper years, the simple and loving heart of her childhood: and how she would gather about her other little children, and make their eyes bright and eager with many a strange tale, perhaps even with the dream of Wonderland of long ago: and how she would feel with all their simple sorrows, and find a pleasure in all their simple joys, remembering her own child-life, and the happy summer days.”
