Where do you get your inspiration for your characters?

It's everyday life, when I meet someone and that person tells me something interesting about their life I just file the situation (especially if it's funny) and wait for the appropriate time to use it. I always tell my friends, "You can tell me your secrets, I'll never tell anyone, but do not fight me if you ever have your secrets exposed in one of my characters, I'll never tell the source."
