An Author's WORDS TO LIVE BY

Last week during our writing challenge, one of our members sent an inspirational quote each day along with her daily check-in request. I looked forward to getting her emails, not only to post my accomplishment, but also to read the quote she sent with them. I loved them, and almost every day I experienced one of those "ahh" moments that don't come along often enough.

Since then, I've been amazed at how often I see famous quotes or words of wisdom right at my fingertips. They are mostly on calendar pages and they've probably been there all along, but I've just failed to notice them before. Well, I'm taking notice now and I discovered a quote on the February page of the calendar on my desk that I have to share with you. Is this amazing or what!

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.  - Michelangelo

Wow. If anyone reached amazing heights, it was Michelangelo. If anyone accomplished the unbelievable and made a lasting impression on the world, it was Michelangelo. So, I think it's safe to say that Michelangelo definitely aimed HIGH! And succeeded.

This made me think about my goals – the end results I aim for. Are they high? Or are they low?

To be honest, I'm not sure.

I'd like to think I aim high and accomplish what I set out to do, and I honestly think I do. But I'm not driven like Michelangelo – and I don't want to be.

Anyone who knows anything about Michelangelo, knows he dreamed BIG and refused to fail. But I don't have BIG dreams like he did. I just have normal everyday dreams. Dreams that I can accomplish.

So, for the larger-than-life Michelangelo, I envy his drive and his vision. I'm in awe of his BIG dreams. But those aren't my dreams. I'm an average, five-foot-three-inch dreamer, with average goals and visions, and I'm happy to tell you that I love setting goals – even if they are low. And accomplishing them!

Here's to your next big dream! Whether it's a MICHELANGELO goal, or a five-foot-three-inch goal, may you accomplish it!

WHAT A DILEMMA – OH, MY!

When starting a new book, one of the hardest decisions I have to make is selecting the kind of character I want my hero to be. Do I want him to be:

1. The strong, superhero type who is the take-control kind of guy. The one man in all the world my heroine knows will keep her safe.
Or...

2. The quiet, silent type whose emotions run deep and whose passion simmers below the surface. The kind whose emotions only appear when he finds his perfect love.
Or...

3. The successful, executive type who is used to making on-the-spot decisions. The kind of man who uses his intelligence to solve any problem, but can't seem to think straight once he meets my heroine.
Or...

4. The typical boy next door who is always there when my heroine needs him. The guy my heroine wakes up one day to realize is still her best friend BUT also the man of her dreams.
Or...

5. The living on the edge, bad boy who shows my heroine a life she's never experienced before. The kind of hero who needs the love of a good woman to unearth the goodness that's buried deep inside him.
Or...

6. Oh, there are so many more.

What kind of hero is your favorite? I'd love to hear from you. Just click on the word COMMENT and let me know the type of hero who makes your heart race.

Enjoy!
