It’s Okay to Play

It’s Okay to Play

Now and then, I get a little bit overwhelmed with all of the things I am doing.

It’s an interesting problem for someone who can’t sit still for long to find themselves feeling like their brain is twirling like the loading wheel of a computer. But it does happen.

For me, this is the edge of burnout, a sign that I need to stop for a bit and just let my brain play.

This month, between c

I enjoyed re-engaging with past characters and meeting new ones. There is a lot to like in this book. Plenty of fun Buffyverse vamps, demons and chatter. I like the way the old characters have remained true to the originals while

“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time

Annie Dillard
“One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.”
Annie Dillard, The Writing Life

Tom Robbins
“This is the room of the wolfmother wallpaper.”
Tom Robbins, Skinny Legs and All

Marianne Williamson
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles"
