It was hard to explain to them who the Pope was, and where Rome is (let alone Assisi). BUT there are still working donkey carts in the Karoo, and I decided that theirs was a story that needed telling - and it would be much easier to teach.

They and Blikskottel was the result. It is an authentic tale, yet it is fiction, and I believe it gives readers a real glimpse of the unique lifestyle of this "Coloured" community.(less)
