Cass' crush would have been painfully clear to him, especially at any point where he physically touched her. The time he carried her about Kalasa was a mistake on his part (trying to be equable on the cartage) because it would have been like carrying a little bonfire of emotional reaction. He wouldn't get all the nuances of her feelings, but more than enough to erase any tiny doubt he may have been harbouring about just what she wanted to do with him.

He was being very logical and mission-focused in deciding that her enhancement made sleeping together (or too much contact at all) a very bad idea. All Sight/Place Sight talents would have to deal with knowing too much about their partner's current opinion of them, and enhancement makes it all blindingly clear. When he came to visit her to fetch Ghost, he knew very well that she'd had a strong change of feeling for him at some point during or after him rescuing her from near-Earth, and that she was now exceedingly physically conscious of him. [He wouldn't have known it before that encounter because although he'd watched her mission logs, none of them included her current reaction to _him_.]

And then they began a long dance of him quietly discouraging Cass and being perfectly aware of her competing attraction and discouragement, and her being fully aware that he would have to know her feelings, him being aware that she would guess he knows, until they both wound themselves into great states of sleeplessness and met in an elevator. :)(less)

My initial concept was simply to write every day of a person's life, no matter how boring that day was - to not skip the things that writers usually elide or compact for the sake of easy reading.

There was no planning whatsoever to start off with, just a girl, and stepping her through a gate and every day I discovered what happened next. This is pretty much how I usually write, for the first chapter or so of my books - I rarely have an ending in mind when I start.

But naturally I think about what could be coming as I write, and usually by chapter three or so I have some idea of some of the major events we're heading for. Often the explanation for all the things going on don't come along until later, though.

With Touchstone particularly, a great deal of what happened revolved around me thinking of something interesting, writing about it, and then when I bored of that, thinking up a new spanner to throw in the works. I didn't know what a Touchstone was actually _for_, for instance, until Lira showed up.(less)

A Note on Amazon's Text to Speech Audiobooks

Some considerable time ago, Amazon starting cutting back the text to speech options on ebooks.  Very irritating to me, since I liked having my books read aloud.  You could still use to text to speech if you were using a browser on a computer, but the option became less available on most of Amazon's apps and devices.

Recently, Amazon's KDP has released a chargeable text to speech audiobook option,

“I blame Doctor Who. Mr Spock. The Scooby Gang: both the ones in the Mystery Machine and the ones with the stakes. I've spent my life with stories of people who don't walk away, who go back for their friends, who make that last stand. I've been brainwashed by Samwise Gamgee.”

“Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself. You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history and you read it in your own terms.”
Angela Carter

“Frankly, I wish I could make my heart quit doing an extra thump when Wolfe says satisfactory, Archie. It's childish.”
Rex Stout, The Silent Speaker

“Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself.”
Lois McMaster Bujold, A Civil Campaign

“Horses are of a breed unique to Fantasyland. They are capable of galloping full-tilt all day without a rest. Sometimes they do not require food or water. They never cast shoes, go lame or put their hooves down holes, except when the Management deems it necessary, as when the forces of the Dark Lord are only half an hour behind. They never otherwise stumble. Nor do they ever make life difficult for Tourists by biting or kicking their riders or one another. They never resist being mounted or blow out so that their girths slip, or do any of the other things that make horses so chancy in this world. For instance, they never shy and seldom whinny or demand sugar at inopportune moments. But for some reason you cannot hold a conversation while riding them. If you want to say anything to another Tourist (or vice versa), both of you will have to rein to a stop and stand staring out over a valley while you talk. Apart from this inexplicable quirk, horses can be used just like bicycles, and usually are. Much research into how these exemplary animals come to exist has resulted in the following: no mare ever comes into season on the Tour and no stallion ever shows an interest in a mare; and few horses are described as geldings. It therefore seems probable that they breed by pollination. This theory seems to account for everything, since it is clear that the creatures do behave more like vegetables than mammals. Nomads appears to have a monopoly on horse-breeding. They alone possess the secret of how to pollinate them.”
Diana Wynne Jones, The Tough Guide to Fantasyland

“You must admit I have a right to live in a pigsty if I want.”
Diana Wynne Jones, Howl’s Moving Castle

Dale Thele Andrea, thank you for accepting my friend request.
I've downloaded and look forward to reading Stray.
Wishing you the very best!

I'm glad you liked it Taylor. :)

It's as out as it will be in Australia. Not available in stores except by special order. (Can take around six weeks for it to show up on catalogue listings though.)

I'm not sure any amount of harassment could overcome my current Star Wars: The Old Republic addiction. But I am making progress. It'll be a next year release I think.
