Sven Michael Davison Announces the Second Novel in His “God Head Trilogy”

The recently released “State of Mind” will have two follow-up sequels to complete its story arc for what author Sven Michael Davison is calling his “God Head Trilogy.” The second book in the series is titled “State of Union.” The story and action take place on a worldwide scale focusing on Antarctica, Brazil, China, India, Mexico, and North America. “State of Union” will be released in the fall of 2012.

“I have traveled within all seven continents and was able to draw upon personal experience for this next installment of the adventure,” states Davison.

There will be plenty to tease “State of Union’s” release in the months ahead. Details for the third and final book title will be announced later this year.

Treat Yourself to a Little Nightmare Before Christmas, Ala Jason Dark!

I must admit, I did not know much about Penny Dreadfuls until I discovered Guido Henkel was reviving the genre with his Jason Dark series. All I knew was that they were novellas that were being written around the turn of the previous century and sold for a penny. What I did not know is that they were serial stories and were the precursor to the modern day graphic novel.

Given this information, I chose a Jason Dark Mysteries to read. I wanted to see if it brought back my childhood experiences with Creepy Comics and Terror Tales.

I was happily surprised to find that Guido successfully paints scenarios and monsters inhabiting nineteenth century London with the language and tone I cultivated a fondness for during my horror comic phase as a young lad.

DEMON'S NIGHT, A JASON DARK MYSTERY is an enjoyable ride through the historical prism of the Penny Dreadful.

In Demon's Night, Guido sets the stage with the mysterious unloading of a ship during a fog soaked night, and an amorphous human-killing demon in search of an entity known initially as The Father. After the demon devours the life force of a few innocent dockworkers, Jason Dark—a third generation ghost hunter—reads about the discovery a shriveled up corpse in the morning paper and decides to investigate.

Dark's investigation ultimately leads him to rescue Siu Lin from the hands of a demon-possessed man in China Town. Dark wins his first confrontation but he has earned a mortal enemy. Unfortunately, Dark was too late to save Siu Lin's parents from the demon and Dark, along with his widowed sister-in-law Lady Wellesly, take Siu Lin in.

As it turns out Siu Lin has knowledge of ghosts, which are culturally accepted in her native China. She quickly takes a liking to Dark and his ghost hunting career and the two of them embark on a search to hunt the demon down before it can unleash The Father into our world.

If you enjoy the literary style of graphic novels with parallel action, quick turn of events, and the teasing of character, you'll enjoy the fast ride of the Jason Dark novellas—sans graphics of course.

“State of Mind” Addresses the 99% and the Eclipse of the American Dream

Where will the 99%, America, and the world be in twenty years? “State of Mind” is a future thriller that is relevant today.

(Los Angeles, November 29, 2011)

2011 started with the Arab Spring and the Middle East protesting for freedom. Autumn saw Occupy Wall Street spread to major cities in the US and Europe. The message of Occupy is more about the disparity in class and income, but one thing is certain. People are angry. But where will this anger lead to? What course is the world taking? Is there truly a summer after spring, or will there be a long winter ahead? Sven Michael Davison’s “State of Mind” projects twenty years into the future to answer these questions, and while the story is dark, there is also hope.

Although “State of Mind” is first and foremost an adventure thriller, the novel touches on themes such as the global environment, transportation, identity theft, polarization of politics, a waning American economy and how a future generation will obtain their growing list of entitlements. “State of Mind” examines how people will adapt to technology that is evolving at an exponential rate and how our technology will ultimately effect generations to come.

Tattered Cover Features Local Author

The Tattered Cover Book Store prominently features Denver author Sven Michael Davison's new Science Fiction Thriller "State of Mind."

(Denver CO, November 1, 2011)

Sven Michael Davison is proud to have his book in the "Rocky Mountain Authors" display in his hometown bookstore. "I remember going to The Tattered Cover as a kid and browsing the shelves with my older sister and parents. I loved how The Tattered Cover felt like an old house filled with tall wooden bookshelves and comfy chairs to read in. Given the beauty and diversity in Denver and Colorado as a whole, I feel the Rocky Mountain state had a big influence on making me who I am today. Local institutions like the Tattered Cover were a part of that experience."

Davison attended Montessori school in Arvada, grade school at East Ridge Elementary in Aurora, and then Dry Creek Elementary in what is now Centennial. He attended Campus Middle Unit for junior high school and graduated from Cherry Creek High School. He sang in a rock cover band that played the Denver Turnverein and the now defunct Fun Plex. Davison had films featured on KBDI, a public broadcast station in Broomfield back in the day.

"In an era when any person can crank out a book and publish it within a hundred hours or less, it's nice to know there are still establishments where a reader can browse for well-crafted tales in a friendly environment, such as the Tattered Cover." Davison adds.

"State of Mind" is a finalist and winner of two Dan Poynter's Global eBook Awards.

Tam, Bragg, and Davison all winners at Dan Poynter’s Global eBook Awards

A pantheon of talented writers receive recognition at the inaugural ceremony for Dan Poynter’s Global eBook Awards.

Los Angeles, CA, August 24, 2011

Sven Michael Davison, author of the Speculative Fiction novel “State of Mind” is in good company today. “State of Mind” won two awards at Dan Poynter’s Global eBook Awards inaugural ceremony last Saturday. Marilyn Tam, former executive at Reebok, Nike, and Aveda won for her book “Living the Life of Your Dreams – The Secrets of Turning Your Dreams into Reality.” Doctor Patricia Bragg won a lifetime achievement award as well.

Joseph Dowdy, the director of the event said, “I was personally surprised by the writers who are yet to be household names. I think that Sven Davison is a great example of this. He is highly inventive, has an extraordinary imagination and is exactly the kind of writer we want to help promote and share with the world through the Global eBook Awards.”

“State of Mind” is a cautionary tale that examines the loss of freedom in a classic post-industrial dystopia. Jake Travissi, a fallen hero, is given a rare second chance at redemption. The price? Volunteer to have a computer chip implanted in his brain and join Homeland Security’s experimental Enhanced Unit.

Davison wrestles with many of the most compelling themes of cyberpunk genre today: Should we embrace every technological advance without question? Should humankind blend itself physically with machines? What does freedom really mean? All of these questions are answered within a vivid tapestry where the boundaries between the virtual world and the real world have dissolved.

“A thoughtfully composed piece of cyberpunk that will please readers of both science fiction and noir.” – Kirkus Reviews

“Davison’s Los Angeles is pulpy- vibrant, an unforgettable wasteland. State of Mind is the world of the near future, the horrible synthesis of human desire and the technology to make it a reality. – ForeWord Reviews

“This book deserves to go directly to the ‘Top Ten Best Sellers List.’” – Deb Shunamon, Reader Views. http://www.readerviews.com/ReviewDavi...

“There are some crazy twists and turns in this novel and the end? One word… WOW. It totally blew me away. There are plenty of shocking, hanging on the edge of my seats moments. – Alice Bola, http://girlsjustreading.blogspot.com/
